What FreePDFToolbox is
FreePDFToolbox is a free, browser-based collection of PDF tools: merging, splitting, compressing, converting, editing, securing and extracting — 50 tools in total, each with its own dedicated page.
The project was built around one simple idea: document processing should not require uploading your files to a stranger's server.
Why local processing
Most online PDF tools work by uploading your file, processing it on their servers, and sending the result back. That means your document — possibly confidential — passes through infrastructure you don't control.
Every tool on FreePDFToolbox works differently:
- The PDF is read by JavaScript running in your browser.
- Processing libraries (pdf-lib, pdf.js, Tesseract for OCR) run on your device, compiled to WebAssembly where needed.
- The result is generated locally and you download it.
At no point is your file transmitted. You can verify this yourself: open your browser's developer tools, watch the Network tab, and process a file — no requests carry your document.
