How to Rotate PDF Pages (Fix Sideways Scans)

Published 2026-08-23 · FreePDFToolbox

Sideways pages are the most common scanner accident. Fix them permanently in seconds — selectively or for the whole document.

A scanned document where some pages are sideways is frustrating — but it's one of the easiest PDF problems to fix.

Rotate in three steps

  1. Open Rotate PDF.
  2. Choose the PDF.
  3. Pick the angle (90°, 180°, 270°) and scope, then click ROTATE.

Choosing the scope

OptionUse when
All pagesThe whole scan is sideways
Even / Odd pagesOnly one side of a duplex scan is wrong
Custom rangeA few pages need fixing

For a custom range, type something like 2-5 — those pages rotate while the rest stay untouched.

What rotation does (and doesn't do)

  • Rotation is a page-level operation — the content is not re-rendered, so quality is unchanged.
  • 90° and 270° swap page dimensions; 180° doesn't.
  • Text remains selectable after rotation.
  • If the whole document is in the wrong order (scanned back-to-front), use Reverse PDF Pages.
  • If pages are both sideways and out of order, rotate first, then reorder with Reorder PDF Pages.

Frequently asked questions

Can I rotate just one page?

Yes — use custom range and enter a single number, e.g. 3.

Does rotation work on scanned PDFs?

Yes, rotation works on any PDF, including scans.

Is the rotation permanent?

Yes — the downloaded file keeps the rotation. The original is never modified.
